District Speech Language Pathologist  Full Time

 

 

Knowledge needed (in no prioritized order):

-State and federal laws, regulations and codes applicable to speech and language

-Fundamental principles and current trends in the field of speech and language therapy

-Legal requirements that apply to identification, placement, and delivery of services

-Testing practices, procedures, and methods

-IEP preparation and implementation methods and procedures

-Record keeping techniques

-Physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth patterns in students

-Oral and written communication skills

-Cultural differences in student population and how it affects Speech-Language skills

 

Skills needed (in no prioritized order):

-Ability to establish and manage a school program for students with communication disabilities

-Use a variety of current methods, techniques and practices in speech and language therapy

-Share knowledge and skills in a supervisory capacity with Speech Language Para Professionals

-Analyze situations and students skills and develop appropriate therapeutic plans

- Communicate effectively with students, parents and district personnel, both orally and in writing

-Develop, write, and implement comprehensive IEPs for special education students

-Travel to various district sites and/or local private schools

-Work effectively with a diverse population of students

-Teaming skills necessary to serve as a resource to school staff in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech improvement

Certifications and Degrees preferred:

-Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology or Communication Disorders

-Valid Illinois certification (Type 10) as Speech-Language Pathologist or Type 73 School -Service Personnel

-Appropriate Speech-Language Pathology licensure in accordance with Illinois PA 85-139

-May hold a certificate of clinical competence from the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association

-Valid Illinois state driver's license
