Physical therapists in educational systems are considered to be related service personnel. The physical therapist is responsible for assessment, planning, goal development, and providing appropriate intervention services designed to enhance the student's potential for learning, to assist the student in acquiring functional performance skills needed to participate in and benefit from the education environment, and to improve the student's level of independent function.
A physical therapist must have completed an accredited education program and all field work education requirements. Licensure: The physical therapist must be licensed by the State of Illinois Department of Registration and Education and must hold the appropriate credentials required by the State agency and SEDOM. It is preferred that a pediatric affiliation or work experience in pediatrics be part of the professional resume.
