District 36 has an opening for a part-time Community Relations Communications Coordinator to coordinate internal and external communication and public relations for The Winnetka Public Schools. This is a shared, twelve-month, hourly, independent contract position that reports to the Superintendent.    Annual salary for this position is approximately $40,000.

 

Qualifications expected of the applicant are:

·      Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communication, marketing, public relations or the like

·      Experience as a writer or journalist

·      Use appropriate English usage, grammar, punctuation, spelling and editing, and proofreading techniques

·      Communicate effectively in oral and written form

·      Excellent communication and public relation skills

·      Possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills

·      Demonstrate strong desktop publishing skills, graphic production, branding and design skills

·      Have strong knowledge of website applications, website development preferred

·      Photography and/or video production skills preferred

 

Responsibilities:

 

·      Develop, implement and monitor a comprehensive communication plan

·      Encourage and facilitate positive two-way communication within the district and between School District 36 and the public it serves

·      Plan the development and communication of information designed to keep the public informed of school district programs, accomplishments and communications goals

·      Initiate and manage district communications with parents, students, businesses, community leaders and other district stakeholders

·      Serve as the initial contact for all media questions and requests for information 

·      Disseminate information in response to media inquiries;  Develop and maintain relationships with the local media

·      Assist with internal and external newsletter creation and distribution

·      Represent District 36 at public events, meetings and intergovernmental meetings and facilitate dialogue between the District and related groups

·      Provide support to Superintendent when using the District instant alert system

·      Monitor website communications and collaborate with Web Content Coordinator to develop website

·      Assess the effectiveness and efficiency of communication efforts and improve as necessary

·      Engage in positive communications and partnership with the other part-time Communications Coordinator

·      Collaborate with and serve on the School BoardCommunications Committee
