JOB DESCRIPTION

 

TITLE:  SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 

            To temporarily perform the duties of the regular classroom teacher during his/her absence. 

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.          A Bachelors degree is preferred.

 

2.          Demonstrated leadership abilities evidencing an ability to command respect and enforce discipline in the classroom.

 

3.          Knowledge and experience in basic computer hardware; working knowledge of instructional software and classroom applications.

 

            4.         Demonstrated interest in the community and its students.

            Principal of Assigned Location

            A.        Instructional Performance

 

                        1.         Interpersonal Relations

 

A.         Practice and promote positive interaction with and among students.

                                    B.        Demonstrate enthusiasm for learning.

                                    C.        Demonstrate interest in students.

D.        Encourage self-direction and self-motivation in students.

           

                        2.         Subject Matter

 

A.         Demonstrate knowledge of the subject(s) being taught and ability to impart subject matter proficiency to students.

 

B.         Demonstrate the ability to adjust presentation of subject content to students' needs and interests.

C.         Demonstrate ability to impart learning skills to students.

D.         Demonstrate ability to improve students' use of written language.

 

                        3.         Techniques/Delivery

 

A.         Communicate lesson objective and its importance to students.

B.                 Utilize appropriate varied teaching techniques and learning activities, with emphasis on achieving mastery of fundamental language, mathematics, science, and social science skills, including independent reading, home study, lab work and writing.

C.                 Use out-of-class assignments, when appropriate, to support instructional objectives.

D.         Maintain an effective system by monitoring student progress and to inform appropriate personnel.

 

                        5.         Classroom Management

 

A.         Maintain discipline appropriate to the learning situation, using positive reinforcement and constructive criticism.

                                    B.        Keep students on task.

 

            B.        Professional Performance

 

1.          Comply with school and school board policies and regulations.

 

                        2.         Work cooperatively with the total staff.

 

3.          Relate positively to parents and other community representatives.

 

4.          Be prompt and accurate with required records and reports.

 

                        5.          Demonstrate command of standard English, both spoken and written.

 

6.          Accept appropriate and reasonable responsibilities outside the classroom as they relate to the school.

 

                        7.         Use instructional and planning time effectively.

 

8.          Assume responsibility for care of materials, equipment and classroom.

 

9.          Assume responsibility for a neat, safe environment for students in their classroom, and generally, throughout the school.

 

10.        Incorporate computer technology and its instructional applications into the curriculum where appropriate.

 

11.       Work in cooperation with the school administrator and perform all functions as assigned by the primary building administrator.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

 

            As per statement of employment for non-certificated personnel.

 

EVALUATION:

 

            Performance will be evaluated in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on evaluation of personnel.
