QUALIFICATIONS

1. Hold appropriate valid Illinois State
Certification for population serviced
2. Hold Masters Degree in Speech, Hearing and
Language from a recognized college or
university

JOB GOALS
:
1. To provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis
of speech voice, fluency and language impairment
2. To help reduce or eliminate disorders of
speech, voice, fluency, language and oral motor difficulty
that interfere with the individual student's ability to
derive full benefit from the district's educational
program
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
:
1. Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of
speech and language impairments
2. Provide screening to identify speech and
language delayed or disordered children at regular intervals
and at specified grades (beginning of school year and as
needed: kindergarten, fifth grade, new students and
children on "watch lists")
3. Assist in proper referrals of individuals to
agencies and specialists in the community as
appropriate
4. Provide appropriate individualized programs of
therapy to meet student's needs and correct existing speech
and language delays and disorders and oral motor feeding
disorder
5. Present written evidence of plans upon the
request of the Principal
6. Collaborate with classroom teachers, school
staff members, and other therapist
7. Consult with teachers regarding carryover of
speech skills in the classroom
8. Provide information, support and counseling to
parents regarding IEP goals, therapy and progress
9. Provide teachers with guidelines for speech
and language referrals
10. Keep thorough ongoing records on the
individual student receiving therapy
11. Compile case history data on those
cases where additional family history or early developmental
history is deemed appropriate
12. Requisition and maintain needed
equipment and supplies
13. Attend pupil staffings and meet with
administrative staff as required
14. Complete promptly, necessary records,
forms and reports and maintain records as needed to comply
with district, cooperative, state and federal
regulations
15. Continue professional growth by
updating knowledge of current legislation, special education
policy and current speech and language practices

with the responsibility, as an employee of the Board of
Education, for the supervision of students to provide for their
safety and well being while they are in our charge.
