Civitas Schools is an educational management organization, which operates three campuses of Chicago International Charter School (CICS).  We serve approximately 2,100 students in grades Kindergarten through Grade 12, on three sites: CICS Ralph Ellison High School, CICS Northtown Academy High School, and CICS Wrightwood Elementary School.  Civitas Schools provides urban students with an outstanding college preparatory experience rooted in high expectations for student achievement and civic responsibility.

Position Title:   Math Teacher

 

Location: CICS Northtown Academy- 3900 W. Peterson

 

Grade Level & Subject:   grades 9-12; (possible subjects- algebra 1, algebra 2)

 

Reports to:  Department Team Leader/ School Director

 

Position Summary: 

Informed by the school's mission, teachers will ensure that all students learn the content and skills required for academic success as defined by curricular and instructional objectives and overarching school goals.  Instructors will teach appropriate content and skills by utilizing curriculum material adopted by the school, as well as providing appropriate supplemental and teacher-made materials; develop appropriate lesson plans that accommodate the range of learning styles and specialized needs of students in the classroom; create a learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement, and self-motivation; and, actively participate with colleagues in school improvement activities, curriculum development, instructional planning, assessment development and student support meetings. 

 

Credentials:

A Bachelor's degree and appropriate Illinois State Board of Education certifications for specified teaching assignment and Highly Qualified Status are required.  A Master's degree is preferred.  Strength of academic background, professional experience, interview performance, and references will be considered during the selection process.

Important Note:  Promising candidates who are moved forward in the selection process, may be asked to do a demonstration lesson at our school (preferred), or provide a video taped lesson of themselves in front of students (least preferred option).  Please be sure to be prepared, if asked to do so by the selection committee.
