Teaching certificate in English - preferred but
not required

hold or be qualified to hold NCLB Paraprofessional
Certification
Strong reading, writing, and communication
skills
Enjoys working with students
Essential Job Functions:
1.
Assist students in building their skills in
one-to-one and/or small group setting
2.
Focus on building and developing students'
literacy skills through the use of different literacy
strategies
3.
Recruit, train, schedule, and oversee peer
tutors
4.
Oversee the day-to-day operation of the Literacy
Center
5.
Maintain communication with classroom teachers
in order to have an awareness of student expectations,
assignments, and teaching strategies
6.
Help students develop learning strategies for
success by determining individual needs
7.
Provide encouragement/support/motivation for
students
8.
Be accountable for reporting student
attendance
9.
Maintain a positive study environment
10.
Work with students on organizational and study
skills
11.
Meet regularly with the Department Chair and/or
Assistant Principal for Curriculum and Instruction to discuss
individual performance, room management, literacy strategies
and skills, and goals for continued improvement
12.
Compile Literacy Center records at end of each
semester showing room use and student help hours.
13.
Monitor use of computers in Literacy
Center
14.
