Pre-K Teacher Assistant
Job Description
School Year 2011 - 2012
Reports to and works with the
classroom teacher and is supervised by the Pre-K Director and
the building principal. Responsible for assisting the
classroom teacher with instruction and general supervision
and management of the class.
Qualifications:
Must have a warm and friendly
personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of
others, be able to relate well to children, and be willing to
fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the Trenton
Special School District policies and philosophy. Must
be at least 18 years old and meet the requirements of NCLB
Highly Qualified.
Minimum Educational
Requirement
Must hold a high school diploma
or GED and a CDA (state funded pre-k) or equivalent, or be
working towards this credential.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities
will include, but will not be limited to, the following
:

Assist in planning and
implementing the daily program under the direction of the
teacher
-
Assist in planning and
preparing the learning environment, setting up interest
centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies
-
Supervise the classroom when
needed
-
Help with the general
housekeeping tasks
-
Assist the teacher in other
ways as requested
-
Maintain a professional
attitude and loyalty to the school district at all
times
-
Treat all children with
dignity and respect
-
Assist teacher with
implementation of appropriate early childhood education
experiences
-
Help teacher supervise and
promote activities designed to enhance the healthy
emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development
of children
-
Help to maintain a neat and
organized classroom.

Help children establish good
habits of personal hygiene; change diapers and assist with
toilet training.

Supervise activities to ensure
safety of students at all times.

student

of weather

Repetitive bending,
stretching, and stooping

Climb up and down

Have mobility required to
ensure the safety of the children

Have visual and hearing
capabilities that allow consistent supervision of
children

Perform light duty
cleaning

Assist in bus loading and
unloading

Provide extra assistance to
students with special needs, such as non-English-speaking
students or those with physical and mental
disabilities
