General Summary:   The Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing sports medicine services including evaluation, prevention, and treatment of athletic injuries in the high school setting, while keeping the health and physical welfare of the student-athlete as a top priority.

 

Job Responsibilities:  

  1. Provide information and updates for coaches and volunteers in care of prevention of athletic injuries, physical conditioning and other related topics
  2. Supervise the use of sports equipment, taping, and supplying of bracing and bandaging
  3. Make determination of readiness to return to activity, based on objectives, sports specific function performance, following consultation with involved physicians
  4. Inspect facilities and equipment regularly to ensure safety for athletes
  5. Act as liaison with medical care providers regarding specific management of athletic injuries
  6. Design and/or supervise rehabilitation programs for injuries, as appropriate
  7. Provide information to the Athletic Department and athletes in health-related areas such as nutrition, injury prevention personal health habits, etc
  8. Assist in the coordination of medical care for student-athletes with parents, coaches, physicians and others as needed
  9. Maintain accurate, complete, confidential records related to athletics as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations
  10. Attend practices and competitions as directed by the Athletic Director
  11. Ensure the equipment is cleaned and disinfected as needed to prevent transmission of disease
  12. During contests and practices, determine if a student-athlete is exhibiting signs and/or symptoms of a concussion and act according to established protocol
  13. Maintain a post-injury record of student-athletes as required by law, district policy and administrative regulations
  14. Follow up with parents and student-athletes to communicate athletic injury needs, care, treatment, and progress
  15. Oversee the budget for the athletic training supplies and equipment and order supplies as needed

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Athletic Training or Exercise/Medical related field preferred
  2. Current Athletic Trainer License
  3. First Aid/CPR certified
