ABOUT THE POSITION:Well-funded, fast growing edtech start-up LearnZillion is looking for a super-star front-end developer to take our user experience to the next level.Are you a geek at heart and do you love to be challenged? Are you passionate about improving educational opportunities for students everywhere?This is an excellent opportunity if you are a software engineer who wants to be part of a small, but intensely smart team, takes total ownership of your code, and wants to make a difference. You will play a key role in building LearnZillion’s technology platform and shaping its future. You will also work closely with founders and senior members. You should be creative, focused and technically smart. You should learn new technologies fast and write clean object-oriented code regardless of the programming language you use.
ABOUT THE COMPANY:LearnZillion is a social enterprise founded by two former teachers. We provide a learning platform that helps teachers and parents meet the educational needs of every student. LearnZillion’s platform combines video lessons, assessments, playlists, and progress reports. The lessons are short (3-5 minutes long), produced by talented teachers, and highlight the Common Core standards. Each lesson focuses on a specific substandard. Together, playlists of lessons prepare students to apply standards to more challenging tasks. LearnZillion raised seed funding through the Gates Foundation, NewSchools Venture Fund, and the Achievement Network. LearnZillion is now being piloted in over twenty DC schools and 150 other schools throughout the country. Qualifications- Strong knowledge or project experience in object-oriented technologies, particularly in web development frameworks like MVC- Experience with and interest in developing highly interactive applications using jQuery, HTML5, CSS - Experience in developing end-to-end web applications- Bachelors degree in a technical field, masters a plus- Back-end experience in Ruby, Java, PHP a plus- Mobile applications development highly desired but not essential- Experience in using design tools like Adobe CS a plusWe encourage recent graduates and graduating seniors to apply.
