Description:
Assists the teacher in classes for mentally exceptional, physically exceptional or learning disabled children with instruction related functions. Performs a variety of clerical, housekeeping and instructional related functions for the teacher and students. Aides may work directly with students under supervision of the classroom teacher; may be designated to assist identified pupils in the provision of specialized physical health care services; may be asked to shadow students who require intense behavior modification therapy. May be designated to assist identified pupils with personal requirements including eating and bathroom needs; and perform a variety of duties both outside and inside the classroom. Assists with yard supervision. Respects confidential matters.
Job Salary:
Salary range (17) $12.00 to $15.43 per hour, eight (8) steps, six (6) hours per day, five (5) days per week. Holidays, sick leave, and vacation benefits. Prepaid family dental, medical, and vision insurance plans are prorated according to the number of hours worked. Prepaid life insurance plan for employee only, prorated according to the number of hours worked.
Qualifications:
Any combination of training and experience equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; knowledge of typing, spelling and English; pass the Instructional Aide Proficiency Test given at Bakersfield Adult School or a copy of a high school diploma, if graduated from a California public high school after January 1981; have a minimum of 48 units of college courses or an AA Degree or have successfully passed the CODESP Test given by the District; six months or more of paid or voluntary experience working with children or children's groups; maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with children and adults. Knowledge of specialized learning techniques such as Discrete Trial Training, TEACH, Lovaas, Picture Exchange Communication (PEC’s) preferred. Experience working with individuals with exceptional needs such as Severe Disorders of Language, Physical Handicaps, and/or Autism preferred. Must be willing to complete district sponsored CPR/First Aid Certificate course and maintain current certification.
