POSITION:                  Curriculum Specialist Grades K-8 

REPORTS TO:              Principal

 

SUMMARY: The curriculum specialist works under the direction of the school principal to assist and support the effective implementation of the school’s curriculum and initiatives in grades K-8. The Curriculum Specialist will support teachers in planning, developing, and using appropriate instructional strategies and resources, as well as assisting with academic reviews, professional development and the Data Team process. Duties include the coordination of interventions for students in grades K-8 functioning below grade level, as well as all formative and summative assessments.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist teachers in effective lesson planning, including the review of lesson plans, and selection of appropriate instructional and curricular resources
  • Assist classroom level educators, including modeling effective lessons, in implementing a challenging and rigorous curriculum based on Common Core Standards
  • Observe instruction and provide effective and timely feedback and coaching
  • Assist with the planning, scheduling, and the implementation of all state, district, and school formative and summative assessments
  • Compile and analyze data for informing instruction based on student needs and evaluation of student progress
  • Coordinate with grade level teachers concerning individual needs of students in all subject areas
  • Assist in the implementation of the School Accountability Plan and Academic Initiatives (i.e. Science Fairs)
  • Participate in the Academic Review process
  • Plan and coordinate all professional development activities based on identified teacher and student needs and manage Professional Development Proposals in My Learning Plan

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Exemplary evaluations as a teacher of grades K-8 for the last three years
  • Masters Degree in education or related field
  • A minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience in an urban setting
  • Knowledge of the Common Core Standards
  • Knowledge of culturally relevant pedagogy and differentiation  
  • Knowledge of Data Driven Decision Making
  • Demonstrated ability with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Performance Plus, and Powerschool
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work within difficult time constraints and under stressful conditions

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Current Connecticut certification as a Teacher with Highly Qualified Status

 

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Salary Grid: In accordance with HFT contract

Appendix E. Extended Day 8% (8:00-4:00) Extended Year 16% (25 Additional Work Days) subject to available funding
