QUALIFICATIONS
- Accredited high school diploma or valid equivalent (U.S.A. equivalency)
- CFC Universal Certification required; Technical HVAC trade school or vocational training preferred
- Certified in air conditioning, gas heating, hydronic heating, air distribution systems and commercial air conditioning preferred
- Three years of experience performing within the HVAC craft (boilers, burners, controls, heating, air conditioning and otherrelated HVAC equipment)
- Must be able to attend evening and/or weekend continuing education, training and certification courses
- Must be able to pass continuing education, training and certification courses within six months of completion
- Demonstrated skills for problem solving and investigative skills as required to research inquiries
- Demonstrated technical skills and knowledge of HVAC systems
- Must be able to work in confined spaces; frequently required to use ladder, climb or balance at a height up to 30 feet
- Regularly required to lift or exert force of up to 100 pounds
- Must maintain a valid Texas Driver License that meets Dallas ISD driving standards
- Must be able to pass the Dallas ISD Random Drug test
- Ability to communicate in English by speaking, reading and writing; Spanish bilingual is a plus
BASIC FUNCTIONS
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, disassemble, repair, maintain, and service forced air heating, cooling and refrigeration equipment
- Calibrate and repair electric control systems related to HVAC equipment
- Must be knowledgeable of operating, maintenance and repairs to the computerized energy management control system (i.e., Trane, and Johnson Controls)
- Utilize computerized energy management control systems to operate district wide HVAC systems and equipment in as energy efficient manner as possible
- Repair controls on HVAC equipment, thermostats, VAV boxes, tab units, heat exchangers, air handler controllers, etc., to include calibrations
- Inspect and repair air handlers, air-cooled chilled water generation and multi-zone heating expansion cooling units, fiberglass piping, window units and other HVAC equipment
- Inspect various air moving equipment and HVAC systems that remove heat from the buildings, and/or conditions air for any malfunction, repair the malfunction, and make other adjustments
- Follow preventive maintenance schedules for HVAC systems
- Monitor air movement equipment, and make adjustments on the equipment for efficient operation
- Operate hand and power tools and other equipment using good safety practices
- Recommend emergency purchase order requests and maintain work order recordkeeping. Assist in obtaining materials for the job using the proper Dallas ISD purchasing procedures
- Maintain inventory of tools, equipment and vehicle as assigned daily, inform supervisor of any known problems with tools, equipment and vehicle immediately and provide documentation during inspection and/or inventory of tools, equipment and vehicle as required
- Communicate effectively with principals, department heads, district staff and all other auxiliary services personnel, contractors and vendors in a professional manner in all phases necessary to locate, correct, repair and complete each job or project
- Perform all other special projects and duties as assigned
Minimum Midpoint Maximum
$16.52/Hour $21.37/Hour $27.55/Hour
Selected individuals for Dallas Independent School District positions will be placed according to compensation guidelines. A campus-based professional employee may not assume a new position for which he/she was selected based upon the posting process until the end of the current semester, unless approved by the Executive Director - Human Resources.
