Qualifications Required:
1. Master’s Degree in Education is required
2. Michigan teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement in Emotionally Impairment(SE)
3. Three to five years of successful special education teaching experience in a EI classroom preferred
4. Knowledgeable about different teaching approaches for teaching Emotionally Impaired students
5. Good problem solving skills
6. Ability to do EI evaluations, write evaluation reports and work collaboratively with a EI Diagnostic Team
7. A thorough understanding of the perspective of students with Emotionally Impairments
8. Ability to collaborate well with others
9. Good communication, time management and organizational skills
10. Basic understanding and working knowledge of the IEP process and the ability to conduct IEP’s when
necessary
11. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with parents, administrators, students, and staff
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assists in the identification, evaluation, educational placement and instruction of emotionally impaired students.
2. Consults with regular and special education teachers working with emotionally impaired students.
3. Assists
classroom teachers in acquiring special materials and devices which
will facilitate the education of emotionally impaired students.
4. Participates
in the development of curriculum, behavior management programs, and
communication strategies to meet the needs of emotionally impaired
students.
5. Upon
request, assists parents of emotionally impaired students in
understanding their child’s educational needs problems and placement
options.
6. Serve
as liaison between community services, resident school district staff
and Ingham Intermediate School District support staff.
7. Coordinate efforts to integrate students into less restrictive educational programs.
8. Provide in-service training for general and special education staff on emotionally impaired and related conditions.
9. Provide parents and staff with current, relevant research in the field of emotionally impairment.
10. Assumes such other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor of Special Education Support Services.
