No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requires that all hourly employees that provide instructional support must demonstrate competency by being “highly qualified”. All classroom paraprofessionals must have a high school diploma or GED and meet ONE of the following qualifications:
(A) Completed at least two years (60 semester credit hours) of study at an institution of higher education; or
(B) Obtained an associate’s degree or higher, or
(C) Passed the Basic Skills Assessments for Teacher Certification (MTTC); or
(D) Completed (or is in the process of completing) the WorkKeys Assessment with passing scores of at least a Level 4 in Applied Math, a Level 4 in Reading for Information, and a Level 3 in Writing
