Bloomfield Public Schools are seeking qualified
candidates for
Dually-Certified Teacher for Special Education and General
Education
position with Current appropriate Connecticut
certification or immediate eligibility.
The State of Connecticut requires certification
in both general education and special education for this
position. For secondary level assignments, the position
requires subject-matter certification.
Required Knowledge,
Skills, and Abilities
:
Comprehensive knowledge of secondary level
subject matter;
Comprehensive knowledge of the impact of various
disabilities on student learning
Knowledge of the general principles of SRBI and
how it relates to special education
Knowledge of assistive technology devices that
can help students access the general curriculum
Knowledge of content and curriculum of grade
levels of students on caseload
Ability to apply current research and theory to
instructional programs
Ability to assess students needs in order to
develop and implement IEP's
Ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with colleagues, parents, and the
community
Ability to establish rapport with all
students
Ability to communicate effectively with
students, colleagues, parents, and the community
Ability to lift or position non-ambulatory
students
Ability to use physical restraint as a last
resort to ensure student and adult safety
Ability to take and follow directives
The teacher may be assigned to one or more
buildings within or outside of the district. The teacher may be
designated as classroom, itinerant, resource or co-teachers.
Depending on needs dictated by caseloads, teachers may be
assigned responsibility to work with an Instructional
Assistant(s). The teacher may work with a group of students
with one specific disability or work with students with various
disabilities.
