Functions:
1.
Makes resources available to students and
teachers through a systematically developed collection within
the school and through access to resources outside the
school.
2.
Assists students in identifying, locating,
interpreting and evaluating information housed in and outside
the library media center.
3.
Provides access to the library media center and
its staff throughout the school day.
4.
Encourages flexible class schedules to
accommodate use at point of need.
5.
Develops policies and procedures to ensure that
access to information is not impeded by fees or
restrictions.
6.
Informs teachers, students, parents and
administrators of materials, equipment, and services that meet
their information needs.
7.
Teaches information curriculum as an integral
part of the school's curriculum.
8.
Provides instruction in accessing, evaluating,
and communicating information and the production of
media.
9.
With other library media specialists and
teachers, plans, teaches, and evaluates instruction in
information access, use, and communication skills.
10.
Assists in the use of technology both within and
outside the library media center.
11.
Provides learning opportunities related to new
technologies, use and production of a variety of media, and
laws and policies regarding information.
12.
Uses a variety of instructional methods with
students and demonstrates the effective use of newer media and
technologies.
13.
Participates in building, district, department,
and grade-level curriculum development and assessment
projects.
14.
Offers teachers assistance in using information
resources, acquiring and assessing instructional materials, and
incorporating information skills into the classroom
curriculum.
15.
Uses a systematic instructional development
process in working with teachers to improve instructional
activities.
16.
Provides leadership in the assessment
evaluation, and implementation of information and instructional
technologies.
17.
Performs other duties as assigned by the
Building Principal.
