POSITION: Assistant Superintendent for
Curriculum and Instruction
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.
Master's Degree in Education (Doctorate
preferred), Type 75 General Administrative and supervisory endorsement and a
minimum of five years teaching experience
2.
Strong experience and academic background in
curriculum and instruction
3.
Broad knowledge of current thinking about effective instruction and
curriculum and its relationship to regular and special education, alternative
education, and post-secondary education
4.
Evidence of success in providing quality
leadership through:
a. Excellent verbal,
written, presentation and technology skills
b. Conceptual
understanding of human growth and development, learning theories, and teaching
methodologies
c. Understanding of
the role of assessment and data driven instruction
in the learning process
d. Fostering growth
of all faculty and staff members
e. Creating a
positive, open, enthusiastic, and organized teaching and learning environment
f.
Sensitivity in working with a diverse school and
community
g. Ability to make
critical evaluations of and take suggestions for improving the entire education
program
h. Ability to work
successfully in a challenging environment
i.
Experience in building administration and previous
experience as administrator in curriculum and instruction
5.
Successful experience as high school principal or
previous assistant superintendent experience preferred

Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction
POSITION GOAL:
1.
To ensure the
district is offering a curriculum that meets the needs of Proviso Township
students. The person in the position will be familiar with current curricular
standards and will be knowledgeable about "best practices" regarding student
curricular needs and learning patterns. This position is also charged with
ensuring that instruction is current and at a high level. The position is
responsible for the district's instructional programs and ensuring those
programs meet local, state, regional, and national standards.
2.
To provide leadership and coordination of district
professional growth, teaching and learning programs and opportunities that
result in improved learning for students, teachers, and administrators. Will work with administrators to develop a
culture of effective district wide learning by developing and delivering
professional development products and activities.
POSITION
RESPONSIBILITIES:
§
Is
responsible for the district's instructional programming meeting local, state,
regional, and national standards for student performance in the fundamental
areas of learning
§
Conducts
periodic need assessments and audits to help identify building and district
progress in meeting its instructional and technological objectives
§
Directs
and coordinates all educational programs
§
Oversees
the development of long-range planning of the educational programs
§
Assists
the Superintendent in providing a comprehensive and sound instructional program
§
Develops
effective organization for curriculum development
§
Guides
the development of systems and procedures for evaluating curricular programs
and implementing curriculum improvements
§
Supervises
committees which examine textbooks and instructional materials and approves
them for subsequent recommendation to the Superintendent
§
Inspects
books, pamphlets, and audio-visual materials offered for distribution
§
Plans
and conducts workshops, Institutes and Staff Development Activities
§
Coordinates
curriculum efforts of all three high schools
§
Works
for the articulation of the high school curriculum with the surrounding
elementary districts, colleges and universities
§
Plans
the student teacher operation for all three high schools
§
Presents
the summer curriculum work for the Superintendent's approval
§
Attends
meetings of the Board of Education and committees, upon request of the
Superintendent
§
Oversees
Principals, District Chairs, Associate Chairs and Teachers in the
implementation of Data driven curricular initiatives
§ Serves as trouble-shooter and problem solver
for school and district issues
SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.
Provide leadership in planning, coordinating and
implementing all academic and instructional programs and services to improve
the academic achievement of all students
a. Coordinate
curriculum efforts of all three high schools
b. Chair committees
charged with recommending textbooks and instructional materials to support the
curriculum
c. Plan the student
teacher program for all three high schools
d. Present the
summer curricular program for approval
e. Develop and
implement process to ensure articulation of the high school curriculum with the
surrounding elementary districts, colleges and universities
f.
Work with Executive Director of Assessment and
Planning to align and coordinate district curriculum, instruction, and
assessment
g.
Work collaboratively with the Chief Financial
Officer/Business Manager to ensure effective support for academic programs
2.
Maintain a highly skilled faculty that has access
to useful and vital professional development and diagnostic data that will
allow teachers to provide better instruction to all students
3.
Support and equip principals to be instructional
leaders and establish quality training programs for teachers and principals to
prepare them for instructional leadership
4.
Supervise the development, organization and
delivery of district-wide professional development for teachers, principals,
and instructional leaders that is based on best practices, standards for
effective instruction and assessment, and is aligned with district and state
curriculum standards
5.
Assume responsibility for the development of
district and state standards and academic progress toward meeting those
standards
6.
Direct the work of the Director of Special
Programs and Special Education and assigned curriculum leaders
7.
Provide leadership in planning, coordinating and
implementing professional growth, teaching and learning programs, and
opportunities to improve the academic achievement of all students.

Develop a systematic, sustainable staff
development program designed to improve student achievement for all three
schools in the District
b.
Provide leadership in all processes related to
teaching and learning within the department of curriculum and instruction
c.
Assist in the overall planning of professional development
services, programs and products
d.
Develop, organize and deliver district-wide
professional development for teachers, principals, and instructional leaders
that is based on best practices, standards for effective instruction and
assessment, and is aligned with district and state curriculum standards
e.
Provide leadership for the presentation of
workshops and training sessions to carry out the district's professional growth
program
8.
Develop a process to evaluate and assess district
needs for professional development of staff
9.
Support and equip principals to be instructional
leaders and establishes quality training programs for teachers and principals
to prepare them for instructional leadership
10.
Provide leadership in identifying and developing
materials that support professional development programs and educator learning
and school improvement
11.
Work with external partners who provide aligned
professional develop services and programs
12.
Assist with proposal writing related to
professional development activities
13.
Attend meetings of the Board of Education and
committees
14.
Perform other functions as the Superintendent may
request or assign
