|
Paragraphs 298 and 299 of the Master Agreement require
chairpersons be appointed by the administration for a
one-year term. Appointments will be made from a
list of at least two department members provided by
teachers of each respective department. The
administration will then select a chairperson or
coordinator from among those nominated. The positions to
be filled are listed below. Each department must submit
its nominations to the coordinating Administrator named
by May 11, 2012. Nominations should be made by the
department as a whole. Paragraph 306 allows when
the number of teachers in a department falls below 5.0
FTE the Board may combine the affected department with
another department. An Administrator may elect to
decline to fill a position.
Paragraph 457 states The Board reserves the right to
curtail the E.P.E.D. program in additon to its right to
curtail other programs and reduce staff under Article
XIII of the Master Agreement.

If
Assistant coaches become necessary, their
compensation shall be athletics paid at 70% of
head coach. If a sport is schedule at a level below
the required 154 hours, the salary will be paid upon an
hourly rate basis in accordance with the number of hours
agreed upon between the principal and the coach.

Qualifications:

|
|
JOB
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF CHAIRPERSONS
|
|
(302)
The main function of a department chairperson is to be an
instructional leader in his or her content area. In
addition, a department chairperson shall assist the
building administrative staff in:
|
|
(302a) Developing annual assignments within the
department.
|
|
(302b) Orienting day to day substitutes.
|
|
(302c) Interviewing and evaluating job applicants if so
requested by the building principal.
|
|
(302d) Visiting classrooms as requested by the building
principal for the purpose of providing input for annual
teacher evaluations and Race To The Top legislation.
|
|
(302e) Implementing the prescribed curriculum.
|
|
(302f) Counseling teachers on a confidential basis if
they are having difficulties in curriculum and/or
instruction.
|
|
(302g) Alerting principal if problem continues and
assisting principal in further corrective action.
|
|
(302h) Following final examination procedures as approved
by the Board.
|
|
(302i) Chairing departmental meetings, including
preparation of agenda in consultation with building
administrator and Departments of Curriculum, Assessment,
Instruction and Technology; checking attendance of such
meetings, reporting minutes of same, and related duties
and serving as an active member on curriculum review
committees in their area.

(302j) Continuing to perform the basic support services
performed under expired contract.
|
|
Application
Procedure:
|
|
|
The
respective departments are obligated to meet and identify
at least 2 names which are then given to the
administrator for selection. The departments may
identify individuals by ballot, volunteering, drafting,
etc. according to the deadline below. Internal
applicants are not required to complete the on line
application.
|
|
Remuneration
is in accordance with the current contract salary
rates.
|
|
Starting
Date:
Variable with the position, contact administrator
responsible for the program.

Procedure:
|
