1.0   FTE teacher on special assignment: teaching and learning specialist primarily responsible for

6-12 reading, 6-12 English and 6-12 social studies

Teachers' contract with extended weeks in June and August

To begin August 13, 2012

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

·          Provide leadership and coordinate all processes associated with the assigned curricular areas including aligning curriculum to the Minnesota Academic Standards, establishing an effective scope and sequence, selecting curriculum materials and equipment, and developing common district assessments.

·          Monitor the achievement trends of all demographic groups of students.

·          Coordinate the training of staff in the use of effective instructional models.

·          Collaborate with the Teaching and Learning Team, the Professional Development Committee and site leaders to develop and implement district-wide and site-based professional development plans.

·          Coordinate all phases of the curriculum review process for each area and implement recommendations for improvement.

·          Communicate regularly with and respond to requests from principals, instructional assistants, department leaders, teachers, parents and other stakeholders.

·          Collaborate with the teaching and learning specialist responsible for the content area

·          Manage budgets as assigned.

·          Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

·          Teacher licensure with at least four years of teaching experience; master's degree preferred.

·          Experience providing leadership and direction to teaching and administrative staff, in multiple content areas, in curriculum, instruction and assessment.

·          Experience developing a vertically aligned, standards-based delivery model.

·          Knowledge and experience with effective professional development models.

·          Strong organizational skills and experience in coordinating a wide range of activities and initiatives for adult learners.
