Principal/Teacher

The Yukon Flats School District has 2 openings for Principal/Teachers. Principal/Teachers have combined duties of teaching and the administration of the school. The Yukon Flats region encompasses a vast geographical area in northeastern Alaska where the District operates 7 village schools ranging is student population from 12 to 120 students. It's nothernmost village, Arctic Village, is nestled at the base of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in the foothills of the Brooks Range. It's other 6 villages are located either along the Yukon River or navigable tributaries  to the Yukon. The population is primarily Gwich'in Athabascan with a strong cultural base in subsistence activities, tradition, and a connection through their Native language and Elders to a remarkable historic past. The School District promotes a strong curriculum of high expectations for its students, balancing contemporary knowledge, technology, and western culture with the extraordinary local cultures of its communities. YFSD offers highly competitive salaries and an excellent health benefit package. Experienced teachers may bring into the salary placement, 6 years of prior certified experience. The present salary schedule for the 2012-13 school-year is available upon request or at www.yukonflats.net; menu-Employment. Principal/Teachers work a 195 day contract and receive a $10,000 stipend added to the Teaching Salary Schedule. Besides a Type A Teaching certificate, a Type B Administrative certificate and/or experience as a Principal or Principal/Teacher in rural Alaska is preferred.
