Compensation: $9.33 per hour
Work Schedule: M-Th 8:30am - 11:30am
Nature and Scope of Job: The position works under the general direction of the Certified Special
Education teacher, helps to provide instruction, motivation, and supervision of
students with identified disabilities; assists with personal care; and implements
non-aversive behavioral management techniques.
Responsible to the building principal and
department director where assigned.
Education, Licenses, Certification or Formal Training:
AA degree required or 60
semester hours or ability to pass the Work Keys
CPR and First Aid
training or willingness to be trained.
Bilingual skills preferred.
Experience in working with students
Or any other combination of related
education, experience or training that enhances the ability to pass the Work
Keys exam if position is at a Title I school.
Qualifications: Applicant must have the
knowledge, skills and abilities sufficient to perform the function of the
position. Applicant must be able to provide support to students. Previous experience working in school setting
or with children with special needs. Strong verbal communication skills, ability to move quickly from
one position to another in response to student needs, desire to work in team
setting, positive attitude, upper body strength with the ability to lift and
carry 50 lbs required. Bilingual skills
preferred, but not required.
Essential Job Functions:
instructor with daily classroom activities.
individuals, small or large groups, to reinforce instruction.
students to classrooms.
students with explanations, note taking, and modification of assignments to
match student capabilities.
test administration as requested.
personal care for students (i.e., tube feeding, assistance with feeding,
catheterization, diapering, assistance with toileting, positioning, lifting,
pushing wheelchairs, and assistance with hygiene).
use of adaptive equipment.
cleaning and sanitizing equipment.
students in problem solving and in conflict resolution.
implements behavior management systems.
developing behavioral strategies.
recording data on student behavior.
general knowledge and familiarity with academic coursework required for
implementation of Individual Educational Plans.
as necessary with disruptive behavior in a non-aversive manner.
accompany students on field trips.
