POSITION SUMMARY:

We are currently seeking applications for a dynamic, knowledgeable, innovative and experienced leader to serve as the Principal for Hartford’s Latino Studies Academy at Burns that serves students in grades PK though 8.  The curriculum focus will be on world perspectives and students will take Spanish as a world language for nine years from Kindergarten through Grade 8, developing high level reading, writing and oral skills.

 

The principal will support a site-based management structure that facilitates active and regular participation of the entire Latino Studies community in the school’s decision-making processes. As the school's leader, the principal will work to ensure that this community, consisting of students, teachers, administrators, school personnel, community members and parents are engaged in an on-going construction of individual and collective student learning goals and of improvements to the teaching and learning process. Strong and collaborative leadership with an honest, transparent, and inclusive style that supports the whole child is essential.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

CT Certification in Intermediate Administration (092)

Ability to integrate theme of Latino Studies into core curriculum

Demonstrated strength in public speaking to effectively communicate with students, staff, parents and community members in a multi-cultural community.

5 years classroom teaching experience

 

QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

Successful school administrator experience

Bilingual, English/Spanish

Advanced degree in education, history/ social studies preferred, or related area.

Demonstrated experience as an instructional leader.

Demonstrated experience and success at the appropriate PK-8 urban setting.

Demonstrated strengths in leadership, sound interpersonal and communication skills.

Possess an understanding of, experience in, and commitment to the integration of technology into the curriculum and instruction to facilitate student learning.

Demonstrated experience in Special Education.

Ability to work cooperatively with parents/community toward a common goal.

Knowledge of financial management.


 

SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary in accordance with Hartford Principals’ and Supervisors’ Association Group 1-3 ($113,930 – $129,695). 2012-2013 Twelve-month position.
