I. General
Responsibilities
The school nurse is responsible
for the implementation of a building health plan. The
school nurse supports the district health curriculum.
II.
Examples of Duties
A. Services
1. Assumes the primary
responsibility for implementing the control of communicable
disease in the school for protection of students and school
personnel. Conducts annual blood borne pathogen education
to the school staff.
2. Reports health condition
to state and local health departments and to parents or
guardians, and school administrator.
3. Reviews health status of
pupils.
4. Conducts vision, hearing
and scoliosis screening and makes appropriate referrals.
5. Assumes responsibility for
implementing medication policies in the school district.
6. Administrator's
first-aid.
7. Obtains medical diagnoses
and oversees implementation of recommendations.
B. Professional Relations
1.
Manages special health needs of students.
2. Identified students in need of off campus
instruction and communicates with professionals and parent
involved.
3.
Works with students regarding their developmental progress and
behavior.
4.
Communicates with parents concerning their child's health.
5.
Works with community agencies and groups to help develop good
health practices.
6.
Interacts positively with other staff members.
7. Works with administrators requiring compliance of
students and parents with immunization and communicable disease
laws as mandated by the state and school district
policies.

III. Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
preferred.
Registered Nurse required.
Valid Kansas Nursing License
