Antioch Community Consolidated School District 34 has an opening for a Director of Student Services

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Appropriate Illinois Certification Required
  • Exceptional verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills required
  • Expertise in policies, procedures and best practices for the education of students with exceptional learning needs
  • Ability to relate to a large and diverse stakeholder group in a positive and constructive manner
  • At least five years of successful special education teaching and administration experience preferred
  • Demonstrates a sense of collegiality, decisiveness and is a positive role model
  • Demonstrates honesty and integrity at all times

 

The ideal candidate for this position is a professional who:    

  • Works collaboratively with other members of the administration to achieve the district’s goals
  • Coordinates and supervises matters related to the delivery of educational programming for students with exceptional learning needs
  • Assists in recruitment, supervision and retention of highly qualified special services staff
  • Maintains files of all current and past students with special services and coordinates the transfer of necessary files to the high school or new school upon a student’s move from District 34
  • Assumes responsibility for the accurate and punctual preparation and timely submission of all grants, claims and reports related to the services of special student populations
  • Coordinates staff development to keep student services staff knowledgeable about policy and procedural changes, current best practices, program implementation and other pertinent information regarding special services
  • Collaborates with and serves as the district liaison with the Special Education District of Lake County, private therapeutic school, local parochial schools, and outside agencies
  • Attends IEP conferences, Annual Reviews, Problem Solving meetings, and related individual student conferences as necessary to address contentious issues, extraordinary services or complex situations
  • Maintains accurate student information in the database systems required by the Illinois State Board of Education such as iePoint and SIS 
  • Perform such other duties as assigned by the Superintendent

The district is governed by a 7 member Board of Education who are elected by the public and serve without compensation.
