Salary Range: Pay Grade 5 $58,500 - $73,152 (Mid Range)Contract Length: 12 months - (226 days per Willis ISD calendar)Reports to: PrincipalPOSITION SUMMARY: The high school Dean of Students, under the supervision of the principal, is responsible for the progress of students. He/she ensures school safety and the prevention of campus violence. The Dean of Students administers the student code of conduct and promotes a close working relationship with parents, students, and staff. He/she supports the teaching staff by developing classroom management programs, identifying students with attendance issues or disciplinary problems and addresses those issues with parents to create a positive learning environment.EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:Master's degree preferredProfessional Mid-Management Administrator or Professional Principal CertificateCertified appraiser in the Professional Development and Appraisal SystemAt least three years of secondary school administrative experienceMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Upholds the district's code of student conductCoordinates student discipline issues with assistant principalsServes as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issuesAssists in developing programs to promote positive student behavior as well as intervention strategiesCounsels students and parents about school and district policiesCoordinates alternative education placement for studentsMonitors student attendanceMonitors student completion rates and works with staff to implement strategies to motivate and inspire students to succeed and stay in schoolResponsible for all school activities such as prom, dances, varsity athletic eventsKeeps principal informed of school status and activitiesComplies, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other documents requiredOther duties as assignedOTHER REQUIREMENTS:Ability to use district administrative softwareProficient in the state teacher appraisal system (PDAS)Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, internal and external to the districtAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the districtImplement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policyDevelop professional skills appropriate to job assignmentObserve professional ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethicsWORKING CONDITIONS:Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Occasional district and state-wide travelOccasional prolonged and irregular hoursRegular work attendance without excessive absencesMaintain emotional control under stressThe foregoing statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to this job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills that may be required.
