Salary Range:  Pay Grade 5      $58,500 - $73,152 (Mid Range)

Contract Length:  12 months - (226 days per Willis ISD calendar)

Reports to:  Principal


POSITION SUMMARY: The high school Dean of Students, under the supervision of the principal, is responsible for the progress of students. He/she ensures school safety and the prevention of campus violence. The Dean of Students administers the student code of conduct and promotes a close working relationship with parents, students, and staff. He/she supports the teaching staff by developing classroom management programs, identifying students with attendance issues or disciplinary problems and addresses those issues with parents to create a positive learning environment.

EDUCATION / QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree preferred
Professional Mid-Management Administrator or Professional Principal Certificate
Certified appraiser in the Professional Development and Appraisal System
At least three years of secondary school administrative experience

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Upholds the district's code of student conduct
Coordinates student discipline issues with assistant principals
Serves as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issues
Assists in developing programs to promote positive student behavior as well as intervention strategies
Counsels students and parents about school and district policies
Coordinates alternative education placement for students
Monitors student attendance
Monitors student completion rates and works with staff to implement strategies to motivate and inspire students to succeed and stay in school
Responsible for all school activities such as prom, dances, varsity athletic events
Keeps principal informed of school status and activities
Complies, maintains, and files all reports, records, and other documents required
Other duties as assigned

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to use district administrative software
Proficient in the state teacher appraisal system (PDAS)
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral forms with all levels of management, internal and external to the district
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internal and external to the district
Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy
Develop professional skills appropriate to job assignment
Observe professional ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Education Agency code of ethics

Regular work attendance without excessive absences
Maintain emotional control under stress
