POSITION TITLE: Lead Dean of Students
REPORTS TO: Principal
Assistant Principal
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid
Illinois Certificate Type 75 and Type 09 or 10 required. Consideration will be given to candidates
presenting evidence of completion of graduate level courses in school law,
supervision, administration and/or counseling.
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
11 Months
Administrative Position. Some evening
and weekend hours are required. Must be
available to work 2 weeks before school begins and 2 weeks after school ends
each school year. Salaried with no
stipend pay included with salary.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Discipline of students
o Contact
with principal, assistant principal, counselors, social worker, teachers,
police counselor, paraprofessionals, and staff members
o Contact
with parents, guardians, social services agencies and legal authorities
o Due
process disciplinary reviews and hearings, and court appearances
·
Overseeing attendance and tardy policies
·
Maintain a working knowledge of educational law
with emphasis on student discipline and discipline as it relates to special
education students
·
Mentoring of teachers and staff members
regarding techniques that may be used to maintain discipline with emphasis on
behavior modification and the use of techniques and procedures that do not
escalate existing situations
·
Supervision and evaluation of secretarial staff
·
Supervision and evaluation of paraprofessional
staff
·
Supervision of students in the cafeteria, at
assemblies, dances and extracurricular events
·
Planning and scheduling of assemblies
·
Approval of and processing of field trip forms
and procedures
·
Approval of and processing of bus and school van
requests
·
Approval of and processing of daily bulletin and
PA announcements
·
Planning of and participation at new teachers’
meetings
·
Participation in Supermarket (students’
registration) activities
·
Supervision of activities off or away from
campus.
·
Residency checks and hearings
·
Supervise Alternative School assignment
personnel
·
Supervise Saturday School
personnel
·
Supervise Disciplinary Study Hall personnel
·
Parking lot supervision and parking permit
enforcement
·
Membership on committees such as: Discipline,
SNAP, Crisis Team and Peer Mediation
·
Oversee the purchase and maintenance of
communication equipment
·
Update student handbook
·
Supervise “Dean for a Day” substitute Dean
program
·
Other duties that may be assigned by the
Principal or Principal’s designee
