Nature and Scope of Job:. Our early education programs are designed for
children to explore their environment through developmentally appropriate
curriculum which focuses on literacy, science, art, music, language
development, interactive play and fun times with friends. Our professionally trained Teachers assess
each child and set goals to maximize individual development, ensure
Kindergarten readiness and stimulate each child’s intellectual, physical,
social and emotional growth. Early childhood
is when children are “learning super sponges” and therefore the perfect time to
stimulate a life-time love of learning.
Education, Licenses, Certification or Formal Training:

High School Diploma or GED.
·
Bilingual skills preferred.
·
Experience in working with students with
disabilities, and in early childhood.
·
AA degree or two years of college in early childhood
or a related field preferred.
Qualifications: Able to observe, see, hear and respond to
children’s needs, emergencies, and conflicts that might occur in a classroom,
on the playground, in bathrooms, and common areas. Able to lift 30 pounds from the floor to a
waist high table 15 times daily. Able to
reach a child 30 feet away within 10 seconds without danger to the staff
person’s health. Able to crouch to a
child’s height, maintain eye contact at the child’s level, sit on the floor,
and stand tall enough to reach children on the highest piece of equipment. Able to determine cognitive, social, and
physical needs of children and communicate in writing and verbally in the
English language to a level that 95 percent of parents are able to understand
and respond. Able to handle stress,
tension, and exasperation that contact with many children and parents bring
every day without a negative impact. Environmental
demands may include occasional weather extremes while assisting transported
children on and off a bus.
Essential Job Functions:

This position works under the general direction of
the Preschool Teacher, helps to provide instruction, motivation, and
supervision of all students with and without identified disabilities; assists
with personal care; and implements non-aversive behavioral management
techniques.

Assists
Preschool Teacher in providing preschool experiences to children identified as
having special needs ages 2 ½ - 5 years of age in an integrated classroom with
Colorado Preschool program students and typical peers.
·
Works
closely with Dist 6 itinerant specialists per Preschool Teacher instructions (i.e.,
Masters Early Childhood Specialists, SLP, OT, PT, School Psychologist, Nurse)
and integrates their suggestions and modifications into the child’s classroom
routine and activities to provide individualized programming for each child.

Assists
the Preschool Teacher and specialists in working with children in all areas and
activities throughout the day.
·
Provides
personal care for students such as assistance with feeding, diapering,
assistance with toileting, positioning, lifting, pushing wheelchairs, and
assistance with hygiene.
·
Works
with individuals, small or large groups, to reinforce instruction.
·
Assists
in implementing Lesson Plans with themes
and activities that are developmentally appropriate with both teacher and child
directed activities. Provides assistance
with individual lessons and lesson planning when appropriate.
·
Assists
with materials and supplies necessary for instructional activities.
·
Assists
Preschool Teacher to make sure cultural variations are included in the program.
·
Behaviors
are managed through positive redirection.
Discipline is appropriate and positive.
·
Assists
students in problem solving and in conflict resolution.
·
Monitors
student behavior and intervenes as necessary with disruptive behavior in a non-aversive
manner as directed by the Preschool Teacher.
·
Supervises
children on the playground, in classrooms, on field trips and to and from buses
and vans.
·
Communicates
information about children to teacher in charge regarding health, safety,
problems, concerns etc.
·
Knows
where the emergency book is located and knows allergies and emergency medical
needs of children in the group assigned.
·
Will
give support to co-workers (works as a team) with all programs and staff when
necessary.
·
Will
assist the Preschool Teacher to ensure that each child is signed in and out
every day. USDA and Attendance sheets
are accurate and filled in at meal and snack times each day.
·
Will
complete behavior, injury and all other reports for children as needed and
review with Preschool Teacher and or Center Director or Assistant Director
before obtaining parent signature.
