Nature and Scope of Job:. Our early education programs are designed for
children to explore their environment through developmentally appropriate
curriculum which focuses on literacy, science, art, music, language
development, interactive play and fun times with friends. Our professionally trained Teachers assess
each child and set goals to maximize individual development, ensure
Kindergarten readiness and stimulate each child’s intellectual, physical,
social and emotional growth. Early
childhood is when children are “learning super sponges” and therefore the
perfect time to stimulate a life-time love of learning.
Education, Licenses, Certification or Formal Training:

BA
in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or a related field.

AA
in Early Childhood Education
·
Early
Childhood Teacher qualified per CDHS Child Care Licensing
Qualifications: Able to observe, see, hear and respond to
children’s needs, emergencies, and conflicts that might occur in a classroom,
on the playground, in bathrooms, and common areas. Able to lift 30 pounds from the floor to a
waist high table 15 times daily. Able to
reach a child 30 feet away within 10 seconds without danger to the staff
person’s health. Able to crouch to a
child’s height, maintain eye contact at the child’s level, sit on the floor,
and stand tall enough to reach children on the highest piece of equipment. Able to determine cognitive, social, and
physical needs of children and communicate in writing and verbally in the
English language to a level that 95 percent of parents are able to understand
and respond. Able to handle stress,
tension, and exasperation that contact with many children and parents bring
every day without a negative impact.
Essential Job Functions:

Provides
preschool experiences to children identified as having special needs ages 2 ½ -
5 years of age in an integrated classroom with Colorado Preschool Program
students and typical peers.

Works
closely with Dist 6 itinerant specialists (i.e., Masters Early Childhood
Specialists, SLP, OT, PT, School Psychologist, Nurse) and integrates their
suggestions and modifications into the child’s classroom routine and activities
to provide individualized programming for each child.

Attends
IEP meetings and keeps observations and progress reports as necessary for each
child’s IEP goals and objectives.

Implements
Lesson Plans with themes and activities that are developmentally appropriate
with both teacher and child directed activities. Creative Curriculum GOLD, and the Early
Language and Literacy Classroom Observation Tool will be used to supplement ABC’s
curriculum as instructed by ABC’s Community Preschool Programs Coordinator.

Lesson
plans and materials are prepared a week in advance and are posted weekly for
parents on the parent bulletin board.

Children’s
individual needs are understood, respected and met. Teachers understand the developmental purpose
of specific activities for children and plan accordingly. Cultural variations are included in the
program.

Has
the ability to supervise, direct and guide Assistant Teachers
·
Can
use individualized adaptive equipment as prescribed by other professionals for
classroom implementation.
·
Maintains
a Classroom Log Book where all Specialists coming into the classroom are
required to sign in and out.

Performs
other duties as assigned.
