This is a non-union permanent position and is part of the Teacher's Retirement System. This position also offers 24 or 30 days of annual leave (with flexible vacation time) per year accruing up to 60 days with cash out provisions; 16 days sick leave per year; 11 holidays, not to mention the other great benefits the District has to offer.
Salary: $67,224 DOE
Work Day: 8 hours per day
Work year: 12 months
Education/Certification: Must be eligible or possess an Alaska Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in special education. Possession of or eligibility for State of Alaska Type B Administrative Certificate preferred.
Experience: Three years of recent successful special education experience required. Administrative experience at either the school building level or within special education preferred. Experience required in team decision-making. Experience preferred in the areas of due process hearings, state and federal monitoring procedures, and Chapter 52 of the Alaska School Laws and Regulations.
Skills: Must have skills for conflict resolution, research, problem solving, and critical thinking.
Knowledge: Must possess knowledge of special education procedures, law, and current best practice.
Abilities: Ability to work effectively with parents, teachers, principals, and district administrators required.
