General Responsibilities
The secondary librarian is responsible for the development and implementation of an ongoing instructional program, that ensures students and staff are effective users of ideas and information; which provides for the informational needs of students and staff on a building level in support of the district curriculum; empowers students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and ethical users of information; ensures equitable access to information; collaborates with teachers and specialists in designing lessons, instruction and assessment of learning and effectiveness; provides the leadership to ensure that the library program meets the mission, goals and objectives of the district.


Qualifications:
Education/Certification

Masters in library and information science and hold a current or be eligible for an Alaska certificate with a librarian
endorsement, required. Prefer B.A. or B.S. in education.

Experience
Two years library/media experience in a school setting is required. Two years teaching at the
secondary school level is preferred.

Skills
Technology skills with experience in computerized and web-based library management systems and
database searching and other digital and social media resources.

Knowledge
Working knowledge with Internet searching and instruction in online reference searching. Working
knowledge in collection building and in processing library materials is preferred, as is evidence
of activity in professional organizations on local, state or national levels.

Abilities
Ability to successfully build and foster relationships with colleagues, administration, parents and
school communities based on professional respect. Ability to create an environment conducive to
learning. Must possess the ability to apply current research and theory to instructional programs
and plan and implement professional development for teachers.
