21<sup>st</sup> Century Summer Program                                                           

Background:

21<sup>st</sup> Century Grant funding is available to support an eight week summer academic/enrichment program beginning in July 2012. The program will operate Monday – Thursday from 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the Greene School servicing approximately 200 students in grades K-6. Teachers will be required to participate in professional development on June 21 and 22.

 

Students from Doran, Greene and Watson Schools will be invited to take part in this academic/enrichment program at the Greene School site. The focus of the summer program will be on improving student achievement through project-based learning, experiential learning and community service learning. Examples of projects are Hands on Science, Fall River History, Futsal (Brazilian indoor soccer) and What’s Hot in the Kitchen (cooking and gardening). Students will also be able to participate in swimming and sailing. In addition, there will be academic instruction provided to students to align to concepts taught in enrichment activities.

 

The Superintendent of Schools announces the following positions in the Fall River School System:

 

Position:

Summer Program Teacher/Instructor

 

Responsibilities:

 Including but not limited to:

  • Implementing an eight week program that targets skill development and academic enrichment
  • Taking and reporting attendance
  • Completing SAYO (Survey of Youth Outcomes) forms as required by the grant and DESE
  • Supervising children throughout the day.

 

Salary:

$30.00 /hour     

 

Program Duration:

July 9, 2011 - August 23, 2012      Monday – Thursday

 

Staff Time:      

8:00 – 2:00

 

Student Time: 

8:00 - 2:00

 

Reports to:      

Site Coordinator/Lead Teacher and Program Director

 

 

The program is contingent upon Fall River School Committee approval and the availability of funds
