The Academy for Urban School
Leadership (AUSL) in Chicago, Illinois seeks experienced
educators for one of its Training Academy High
Schools.
Founded in 2001, AUSL is a
not-for-profit teacher preparation and school management
organization working in partnership with Chicago Public Schools
(CPS) to effect the transformation of underperforming schools.
AUSL seeks to transform schools by specially training teachers
to serve in high-needs schools that are added to the network of
CPS schools managed by AUSL. AUSL currently trains
teachers at seven primary and three secondary Training
Academies, which are regular CPS schools with a supplemental
mission to provide intensive mentoring to teacher trainees
through our Chicago Teacher Residency (CTR).
We seek educators with a visionary
and passionate spirit and deep commitment to public education for
the students and families in our community.
Successful candidates will be able to provide evidence of the
following:
· Speak and write
Spanish as fluently as a native speaker.
· Lessons and
objectives that align with College Readiness Standards or state
standards.
· Lesson and unit
plans that demonstrate deep knowledge of content, students, and
pedagogy.
· The use of student
data to guide instructional decisions.
· Student growth or
record of achievement on formative, state, or national
standardized assessments (NWEA, EPAS, AP, etc.)
· A positive and
orderly learning environment that engages students and
maximizes on-task behavior.
· Instructional
strategies that promote student engagement and critical
thinking.
· Characteristics of
lifelong learning, reflection, and collegiality.
· The desire to use
AUSL assessments, tools, resources, and teaching
strategies.

In order to be considered for an
interview or position, applicants must:

Possess current IL state
certification for the instructional grade level and content
area(s) you are applying to teach;

Submit a resume and letter of
intent as a part of the online application;

Participate in group interviews
by a teacher selection committee; and
-
Be available to teach a sample
lesson and be observed by members of the teacher selection
committee.
Applicants should also be aware
that teachers may be asked to participate in training during
the 2012 Summer.
