SUMMER PROGRAM/EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR NURSE

June 11, 2012 - August 16, 2012

(week of July 4 off)

Monday - Thursday

3-6 hrs/day

8:00 a.m. - end time will vary

Rate of Pay:  $24.14 per hour

(Travel to multiple locations)

Responsible To:   Health Service Coordinator/Specialized Services Coordinator

 

Position Purpose:   Provide health services for students at assigned school building

Benefits of Employment as of July 1, 2010:   Eligible for benefits as negotiated with District 112 and Registered Nurses.  This position is eligible for overtime and comp time.

Provide Registered Nurse assessment in determining levels of individual care and overall school health needs

 

§   Coordinate and maintain system for Medical treatments per physician's orders

§   Coordinate and maintain system for providing first aid, direct, and emergency care

§   Identify health problems of students through health assessment

§   Coordinate and maintain system for Administration of medications per physician's orders and parent consent

§   Assess student health concerns prior to the delegation of duties to any caregiver

§   Comply with delegation, training, and supervision requirements to maintain safety and ensure competence of the direct caregiver

 

§   Current Registered Nurse Licensure

§   Excellent judgmental skills pertaining to timing in accessing emergency services

§   Body systems assessment skills

§   Current CPR training

§   Experience in school health office preferred

§   Excellent organizational skills

§   Flexibility

§   Demonstrates concern for student's interest

Communicate with students, staff, families and health care providers concerning health issues

§   Monitor and review student health records

§   Provide health counseling to students and families to assist them in making health decisions

§   Communicate current health problems, needs and concerns of students to their parents, health care providers and appropriate school staff

§   Assist students and parents in identifying and utilizing available and appropriate community health resources

§   Provide blood borne pathogen training as needed

§   Report child abuse per guidelines

§   Develop and revise IHP's for students who have a health issue that needs to be managed during the school day

§   Evidence of excellent human relations skills, especially, the ability to be a team player

§   Ability to maintain confidentiality

§   Friendly manner

§   Positive manner

§   Knowledge of mandated child abuse reporting

§   Knowledge of IHP development

Monitor communicable diseases

§   Maintain a system for documentation of communicable disease

§   Communicate communicable diseases within classrooms to families per policy guidelines

§   Provide information regarding area immunization clinics for students to keep current with MN state requirements

§   Knowledge of various communicable diseases

§   Knowledge of immunization requirements

Monitor health and safety hazards for students and staff

§   Report environmental health and safety hazards for students and staff

§   Be a resource to school safety committee

§   Awareness of safety and environmental health issues

Maintain Registered Nurse Professionalism

§   Assume responsibility for personal professional development
