Specific Duties/Tasks Include:
Under supervision from Nursing administrator assesses students with health and/or injury complaints; administers medications to students; documents and inputs health information into computer medical files including health office visits, medications, meetings, screenings, and parental and staff contacts; reviews student health files for immunizations; prepares notices regarding inadequate immunizations; follows up to ensure proper immunizations are obtained or administers immunizations.
Conducts student health screenings; checks vision and hearing; measures height, weight and blood pressure; provides health examinations; evaluates student condition for return to class or release to parents; contacts parents for student pick up if required; completes medical records for each student; maintains strict confidentiality in dealing with patient records.
Educates students, staff and community on health concerns and administration of medication; inventories and orders medical supplies as needed; participates and attends training and meetings as required; performs within their scope of practice and performs related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills and Other Characteristics Preferred:
Knowledge of general medical practices and principles.
Knowledge of medical terminology
Knowledge of State and County laws, regulations and orders governing nursing and immunization practices.
Knowledge of District policies and procedures governing student health.
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Knowledge of nursing instruments used to evaluate patients' health.
Skill in verbal and written communication.
Skill in providing nursing care within the scope of practice..
Skill in assessing medical situations and following protocol to determine best course of action.
Skill in the use of a personal computer and related software.
Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships
Qualifications:
Must possess a Certified Nurse Assistant certification.
One (1) year clinical nursing experience preferred
School health aide experience preferred
Possess or ability to obtain First Aid certification
Additional certifications may also be required as specified by the District
Salary and Benefits:
10 (Ten) month position
Range 28 ($10.03/hr) Final salary depending on previous related experience
