Redding Board of Education:  Science Technology Instructional Coach [STIC] Job Description

Purpose

The Science Technology Instructional Coach [STIC] will collegially support K-8 teachers in researching, designing and implementing effective cross-disciplinary projects, units and lessons that aim at age appropriate STEM learning goals. The STIC will be expected to work collegially to identify, select and define those goals.  “Support” will be provided through such embedded means as in-class demonstration, co-teaching, reflective coaching as well as through individual and small group consultation, professional learning workshops and discussion groups. Qualifications include expertise in STEM curriculum and instruction, child development and adult learning theory. 

Essential Function

  • Through demonstration and co-teaching as well as through reflective coaching and related professional learning activities, assists teachers in transferring theory into effective STEM instructional practices.
  • Assists teachers in designing engaging STEM projects, units and lessons.

  • Through collegial engagement, encourages teachers to participate in STEM professional learning communities. 

  • Reviews, researches, and disseminates new developments in STEM pedagogy.

  • Aids district and regional leadership in assessing professional learning needs.

  • Assists in STEM curricular alignment, articulation and design activities. Supports the development of a vertically coherent STEM instructional program that features cross-disciplinary experiences in critical inquiry, project design and problem solving.
      
  • Demonstrates the effective use of technology, especially in the service of student-centered lessons that differentiate content challenge and learning support in keeping with individual needs.  

Qualifications

  • Appropriate teaching certification (047 Technology Education PK-12 or Elementary K-6 with emphasis in Math/Science) 
  • Successful K-8 STEM teaching experience
  • Ability to interact purposefully with colleagues
  • Deep and broad understanding of STEM curriculum and instruction, child development and adult learning theory

Miscellaneous

  • Step and scale placement on teacher salary schedule
  • No supervisory or evaluative responsibilities
  • Position has no assigned classes or teaching duties
  • Position reports to both elementary and middle school principals for evaluation purposes
