School Screening Specialist (475 hours each fiscal school year from the end of August through May 31st)

Description:  This position is 475 hours per fiscal school year from the end of August through May 31st.

Job Summary:
 
The primary job responsibility is to coordinate and manage the following school health screenings:
 
o   Vision and hearing screening and follow up for non-public and elementary schools, grades 1, 3, and 5.
      -   Site visits to all schools prior to screening to determine room suitability.

      -   Collaborates with Health Service Secretaries to coordinate volunteers for screening day.
      -   Train volunteers and function as "lead screener".
      -   Coordinate follow-up/re-screening as needed.
 
o   Scoliosis screening for girls in grades 5 and 6.
      -   Schedule and conduct screening.
            .   On vision/hearing re-screen day for Grade 5.
            .   In February at all Middle Schools for Grade 6.
 
o   Conduct individual student requests by teacher or parent/guardian for vision, hearing and /or scoliosis screening throughout the school year.
 
o   Document returned referrals and coordinate appropriate care.
 
o   Conduct immunization review at non-public schools to determine that students are in compliance.
 
o   Work with Coordinator of Health Services to create next year's vision/hearing schedule.
 
o   Assist families to provide appropriate resources to obtain needed services or care.
 
o   Prepare end of the year screening reports and submit to Coordinator of Health Services which are used to assess program effectiveness.
 
o   Other job duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Health Services.

Qualifications:
 
o   Degree as Registered Nurse.
o   Prefer experience in administering screening tests for vision, hearing and scoliosis.
o   Certified in first aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

o   Ability to perform physical functions associated with the job.
o   No allergies to cleaning chemicals associated with job duties.
o   Willingness and ability to accept and follow directions.
o   Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
o   Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, administration, and other adults and participate positively as a team member.
o   Ability to communicate well verbally and in written form.
