Qualifications: 1. Valid driver's license.
2. Valid
State of Ohio RN license with school nurse edorsement. 3. Professional
tact, diplomacy and presentation with administrators, staff, teachers,
students, parents and the community.
4. Conscientious
and assumes responsibility for own work performance.
5. Good
health, high moral character and good attendance record.
6. Demonstrate
enthusiasm and a sincere desire to aid all students.
General
Description: As a member of the educational team, the school
nurse promotes an atmosphere for healthy learning by encouraging a state of
physical and emotional wellness for all students; will participate in and
provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each district student
by minimizing absence due to illness; and create a climate of health and
well-being in the district’s schools.
Essential Functions:
1. Assist with primary, secondary and tertiary
prevention of disease and other health problems by observation, assessment,
screenings, referral and follow-up.
This is to include health screenings as required by the State of Ohio
and local policy.
2. Assist with development and implementation of
health policies, health-related forms and the training ans supervision of
health clinic personnel as needed.
3. Implement, with building administrator, policy
and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious
disease.
4. Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records
on all students and keep other health-related records as needed including
confidential records where necessary.
5. Review
entering students’ health records, advise parents and report known immunization
violations to the principal.
6. Keep
staff and administration informed of student health conditions and advise on
modification of the educational program to meet health needs of the individual
students.
7. Assume
responsibility for maintaining first aid supplies in clinics as needed.
8. Administer
first aid when needed.
9. Report
to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on school
medical matters.
10. Work
with students and parents regarding an understanding of health problems or
special needs and assist with obtaining needed services.
11. Work
in cooperation with the local health department and refer or participate with
students and families as needed for home visits.
12. Prepare
and submit reports for the superintendent and other agencies as required.
13. Assist
school personnel in maintaining sanitary and safe conditions in school.
14. Attend
committee meetings and conferences regarding health service and health
curriculum.
15. Participate
in and sometimes direct inservice and educational programs.
16. Serve
as a resource and advisory person in areas of health, health education and
health careers for students and staff.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Serve
as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as
responsible, intelligent human beings.
2. Help
instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and
democratic values.
3. Perform
other duties related to the role of speech and language pathologist as assigned
by the director of pupil services and/or superintendent.
ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Occasional
exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
2. Occasional
operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions.
3. Occasional
interaction among unruly children.
