Description:
The school psychologist is responsible for the evaluation of student referrals for psychological testing, subsequent staffings and recommendations for the appropriate placement of students referred for diagnostic testing and observation. The school psychologist shall work under the supervision of the coordinator of special services and shall serve as a resource person to building and principals. Many functions of the school psychologist will be of a confidential and personal nature.
Job Summary:
1. Process all referrals of students for special testing and/or observation.
2. Attend staffings with appropriate documentation in hand and recommend appropriate placement of students into special programs.
3. Represent the school district at staffings conducted by the district’s special education cooperative.
4. Serve as a resource person to building principals and teachers.
5. Serve as a resource person to staff involved in district special education programs.
6. Provide short-term counseling services to students in individual or group therapy sessions.
7. Serve as a resource person for parent group work.
8. Perform other responsibilities assigned, including the appropriate expectations identified in the Core Expectations for Teachers.
Qualifications:
The school psychologist shall be certified as an Illinois school psychologist. Knowledge and experience in special education is desirable.
