Head School Nurse
|

PRIMARY
FUNCTION
|
|
|
|
The Head School Nurse is responsible for the
coordination of all nursing activities and school
health services at the district level as well as
serving as a school nurse at the building level.
|
|
|
|
REPORTS
TO

|
Assistant Superintendent of Pupil Special Services,
Building Principal and/or designee
|
|
|
|
QUALIFICATIONS
|
|
|
-
New Jersey School Nurse Certificate
|
|
|
-
Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of
New Jersey
|
-
Master's Degree in a field related to nursing or
health preferred
|
-
Minimum of five (5) years experience as a school
nurse
|
-
Some experience in a supervisory or leadership
capacity preferred
|
-
Such other qualifications of academic, professional
and personal excellence as the Edison Township Board
of Education may specify
|
|
|
|
MAJOR DUTIES
AND RESPONSIBILITIES
|
|
|
-
Assist with the development and implementation of
health related policies and procedures.
|
-
Coordinate all district health services and
programs
|
-
Arrange the CPR recertification program for the
school nurses
|
-
Coordinate the inservice training of school
nurses
|
-
Coordinate the orientation of newly hired school
nurses and substitute nurses
|
-
Coordinate the employee Bloodborne Pathogens
inservice program
|
-
Coordinate the employee Hepatitis B vaccine
program
|
-
Schedule and conduct meetings with the nursing staff
as needed
|
-
Assist with budget preparation
|
-
Order district-wide Mantoux supplies
|
-
Evaluate and recommend the purchase of health service
materials, supplies, and equipment
|
-
Orders supplies, materials and equipment
|
-
Consult with school physician as needed
|
-
Serve as a liaison between the Edison Township
Division of Health, school heath specialists, school
administrators, school physicians, and public health
and welfare agencies
|
-
Maintain the health services procedure manual,
incorporating new state recommendations and
mandates
|
-
Complete Regulated Medical Waste applications,
reports, and inspections
|
-
Review the Annual Immunization Status Reports and
submit to the local and state health departments of
health
|
-
Review the Annual Report of Tuberculosis Testing in
the schools and submit to the local and state
department of health
|
-
Gather, organize, and maintain district-wide health
services program records
|
-
Submit reports as required by the Superintendent,
Board of Education, and the State of New Jersey
|
-
Performs duties of School Nurse
|
-
Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the
Superintendent or designee
|
|
