Teacher Assistant
Minimum Education: Bachelors degree in education or completed
at least 30 semester credit hours at an accredited university or community college.
Certification:
Applicants
who have not completed the necessary educational requirements are able to
qualify for the teaching assistant license by passing the ETS ParaPro
Assessment with a score of at least 460. Certified teacher or LBS1 preferred.
The position of the teacher’s
assistant is designed to serve individual and groups of students in the
classroom and throughout the building site.
I. Professional Responsibilities
A.
Demonstrate good
attendance and be on time each day.
B.
Display a
positive and collaborative nature when working with staff.
C.
Encourage a
positive learning environment in each setting with the school.
D.
Maintain
confidentiality of student information.
E.
Defer
decision-making and questions from parents to the supervising teacher or an
administrator.
F.
Contribute to
the Cove community by attending school events when possible.
II. Instructional Responsibilities
A.
Be conscientious
in regard to daily schedule and student assignments.
B.
Display problem
solving skills and flexibility when instructional methods or materials need
adaptations.
C.
Demonstrate
initiative when various students or other staff members need help.
D.
Be engaged in
all classroom activities.
E.
Follow teacher
direction.
F.
Make appropriate
suggestions to promote student achievement.
