SCHOOL NURSES
TWO POSITIONS AVAILABLE
GENERAL DUTIES
: The School Nurse is responsible for health
services at the building level. The nurse acts as a
resource for the prevention and control of communicable
diseases, provides assessments of illness or injury with
appropriate intervention or referral, conducts a variety of
health related screenings, oversees the administration of
prescribed medications, acts as a resource person to parents
and staff and maintains the health records of students.
QUALIFICATIONS
:

Licensed Registered Nurse (RN)
with a current Connecticut license
-
Knowledge of the prevention and
control of communicable diseases
-
Knowledge of current state
medical regulations and school health procedures
-
Ability to work well with
students and adults
-
Ability to maintain accurate
records
SPECIFIC DUTIES
:
-
Provide emergency care to
students and staff on an as needs basis.
-
Conduct in-school auditory,
visual and scoliosis screenings as per State of Connecticut
mandate.
-
Oversee the implementation of
physical examinations for per-kindergarten, kindergarten,
sixth and tenth grades, inter-scholastic sports
participation, new students entering local school from
out-of-state.
-
Coordinate immunization programs
with the area Health District as required by state statute
and Board of Education policy.

Oversee the administration of
medications, nursing treatments and procedures as prescribed
by the student's physician, dentist, physician's assistant or
Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.

Confer with and provide
information to parents, staff, administrators, and students
on the prevention and control of illnesses and communicable
diseases.

Attend team meetings to aid
staff and parents in the interpretation and translation of
significant health problems as needed.

Maintain accurate and detailed
health records on all students and logs of medications
dispensed to students in accordance with State
statute.

Attend professional development
programs and maintain nursing skills at a high level of
proficiency as approved by district administration.

Provide individual health
counseling to parents, students and school personnel.

Perform other health related
duties within the scope of current Nursing Practice in the
State of Connecticut as requested by the building principal,
Director of Pupil Personnel, the Superintendent of Schools,
or School Medical Advisor.

Benefits
*NOTE: An individual
possessing a Baccalaurette Degree will receive an annual
stipend of $1,500 to be paid annually.
