$99,756.00 - $115,507.00 based on experience

Job Goal:   Responsible for the administration and supervision of special education programs and services for all students (ages 3 - 21), staff, parents and support staff in all district schools and outside locations. 

 

Job Qualifications:

1.      Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Special Education Teacher.

2.      Master's Degree in Special Education and/or Educational Leadership.

3.      Must possess or be eligible for Delaware Teacher Certification in Special Education.

4.      Possess or be eligible for School Leader I Certification in Delaware.

5.      Minimum of 2 years' experience with and providing training for district and/or school staff on a student's individualized education program (IEP) processes, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), the state curriculum standards and assurance in compliance with all Federal and State laws and/or regulations.

6.      Ability to work with computers and computer applications.

7.      Ability to carry out detailed written and/or verbal instructions.

8.      Demonstrated leadership, planning and organization, multitasking, communication with vision and purpose, time management, and interpersonal skills with the ability to problem solve.

 

Essential Functions:   

1.      Provide direct oversight, supervision, leadership, guidance and support of all special education programs, services, curriculum and instruction, and personnel. 

2.      Monitor and supervise school building compliance for IDEA Preschool through High School.

3.      Collaborate with building administrators for the effective use of research based best practices in the supervision of curriculum

and instructional practices and service delivery provided by Teachers of: Special Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Visually Impaired Students, Deaf or Hard of Hearing Students, Exceptional Children, Students with Autism or Severe Disabilities and Specialists in the following areas:   Paraeducators, Educational Diagnosticians, Psychologists, Speech and Hearing Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, and Physical Therapists and the staffing needs related to such. 

4.      Provide guidance and support, participates in meetings as appropriate to assure that appropriate services for identified students in accordance with inclusive practices in all school buildings.

5.      Facilitate district-wide professional development opportunities for all special education and support staff.

6.      Collaborate with Director of Pupil Services in the development and oversight of IDEA Grants.

7.      Provide building administrator/teacher assistance and support for DCAS/DCAS-Alt1 student testing processes and procedures for students with disabilities.

8.      Provide building administrative support for observations and assistance with the Delaware Performance Appraisal System II (DPAS) for certificated employee work performance appraisals.    

9.      Coordinate and supervise summer programs for students with disabilities (Extended School Year, 12-Month Program).

10.    Attend meetings and professional development activities for Special Education programs and services. 

11.    Act as a liaison to outside agencies that provide transition services/supports (DVR, DDDS) to special education students.

12.    All other responsibilities as designated by the immediate supervisor.
