District Numeracy Coach

 

Location:                      All Buildings

Contract Period:         180 Days

 

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

·          Preferred Master's Degree

·          Teaching endorsement in math required

·          A strong undergraduate and graduate scholastic record

·          Standard Illinois Teaching Certificate required

·          Knowledge of mathematics curriculum, instructional trends, school improvement process, technology use, and student assessment systems

·          Successful leadership experience required

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1.       Act as an instructional leader in the development, implementation, and coordination of numeracy instruction across the curriculum by planning, guiding, directing, and modeling.

 

2.       Form and meet with cohorts of teachers from specific grade levels or discipline to have collaborative dialogue for teachers at all levels of knowledge and experience.

 

3.       Research and disseminate current research on instructional practices that link with the school improvement goals.

 

4.       Use both data and analysis of students' learning to assist classroom teachers in making decisions to improve instructional practices and interventions. 

 

5.       Recommend assessments and help teachers learn to administer them, to interpret data, and design instruction from the information gained.

 

6.       Provide appropriate individualized help and feedback to support numeracy efforts of all personnel.

 

7.       Build a team of numeracy leaders from different grade levels to support a systemic paradigm of numeracy support.  

 

8.       Act as an agent of job-embedded professional development that will lead teachers during group planning time and school improvements days in addition to working with individual teachers in his/her own classroom to model a new lesson.

 

9.       Understand the specific numeracy demands of each discipline assisting teachers in assessing these skills and learning ways to help students become more independent learners in the discipline.

 

10.    Be professionally active in education associations related to math education.

 

11.     Share responsibility for being informed and informing the public about the District's educational program.

 

12.    Perform other duties as assigned.
