Director of Teaching and Learning

 

Job Summary:

Implement the district’s vision of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.  Provide leadership in improving the academic performance of the district’s students, in cooperation with the superintendent and the other members of the district’s administrative team.  Promote among staff the need to continually challenge our students academically; while encouraging a constructivist approach to learning.

Qualifications/Certification:

  • Master’s degree in administration.
  • A valid Type 75 state certificate to practice as school administrator.
  • At least five years of successful experience in public and/or private school teaching and administration.
  • Must be organized and goal-oriented.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of the district’s administrative team.
  • Ability and willingness to embrace and use technology to the benefit of the district.
  • Ability to prioritize the importance of curricular/instructional needs and the skill to follow-through until tasks are successfully completed.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the area of standardized and performance-based assessments and must be able to use data to drive curricular decision-making.
  • Experience in pursuing and applying for external grants that will support and enhance the mission and vision of the district.
  • Must be able to plan, organize, and coordinate all major staff development efforts for certificated teaching and administrative staff.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and facilitate all activities related to the district’s curriculum and staff development.
  • Establish the district’s calendar and activities pertaining to certificated staff development efforts.
  • Arrange for the piloting of instructional materials in conjunction with the district’s curricular review process.
  • Monitor and provide leadership to the district’s various assessment programs.
  • In collaboration with the staff, write and submit the district’s annual categorical and competitive grants that will serve the district’s interest.
  • Stay abreast of the current research and practices in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment and keep the administrative team and certified staff apprised of these practices.
  • Promote the concept of standards-based education and the need to align the district’s curriculum with the Illinois Learning Standards among all certified staff.
  • Work cooperatively with the staff to ensure that the district makes the best efforts possible to maintain Adequate Yearly Progress for each of the district's schools.

With over 200 certified staff, Antioch District 34 is dedicated to the continual improvement o student achievement. The district is governed by a 7 member Board of Education who are elected by the public and serve without compensation.
