Purpose Statement

The job of Skilled Maintenance is done for the purpose/s of providing skilled work in the operation and

maintenance of school district facilities and property.

Functions

Assists in the repair, maintenance, alteration, construction and installation in other areas of

maintenance for the purpose of providing skilled knowledge in areas of expertise.

Maintains records of time, materials and parts required in completing work assignment for the purpose

of identifying and reporting expenditures and inventory used to immediate supervisor .

Performs and completes minor repairs, maintenance, alteration, or construction and installation of all

items in area of expertise for the purpose of maintaining the day to day maintenance needs of the

campus to minimize the need for major repairs when appropriate.

Performs and completes other tasks as assigned for the purpose of facilitating skilled maintenance on

the campus as needed.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in

order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of

the job include: handling hazardous materials and the ability to operate a truck and other equipment

and the ability to lead others on projects as designated and organize own work. Ability to maintain

appropriate interpersonal relations with students, parents, and other staff of the district.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or

ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present

information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily

perform the functions of the job includes: Have journeyman skill level in one or more trades. Ability to

read and interpret blueprints, drawings and diagrams and have a working knowledge of building and

safety codes. Be proficient in the use of hand and power tools and the ability to maintain records and

equipment.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and

consider a wide variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a

variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and utilize equipment

under a variety of conditions for multiple purposes. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of

individuals and/or groups; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a wide variety of

types of job-related equipment. In working with others, problem solving is required to analyze issues

and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires analysis based on organizational

objectives; and problem solving with equipment is significant. Specific abilities required to

satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: none specified.

 

Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or

methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; and tracking budget expenditures. Utilization

of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is some

opportunity to impact the Organization's services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical

demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; some

stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job

requires 5% sitting, 20% walking, and 75% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature

variations and in a generally hazard free environment.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: 5 years or more experience as a journeyman plumber required; Experience in backflow preventers, master meter inspections,   

installation of hot water heaters and boilers. Experience and knowledge in plumbing codes.

Certificates & Licenses: Valid Driver's License

Clearances: Criminal Justice/Fingerprint Clearance

                     Tuberculosis Clearance
