POSITION:                Principal - America's Choice School at S.A.N.D.
 
REPORTS TO:             Assistant Superintendent of Schools for K-8
 
POSITION SUMMARY:  We are currently seeking applications for a dynamic, knowledgeable, innovative leader to serve as the Principal for a K-8th grade America's Choice School in Hartford. Implementation of the America's Choice design will involve the alignment of all curriculum and assessments with state standards and the establishment of classroom rituals and routines. A workshop model, high quality materials, on-site technical assistance and intensive professional development support the full implementation of this model. The principal will be responsible for leading, supporting and sustaining a team of highly capable faculty who share leadership responsibilities and oversee the implementation of the America's Choice design. As a K-8 school, a unique middle school curriculum will be developed for students in grades 6-8 using a journalism theme.
 
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Advanced degree in Education
CT Certification in Intermediate Administration (092)
Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience at the elementary and /or middles school
Experience with the Workshop model, (Reader's and Writer's Preferred)
Excellent writing skills and technology skills
Demonstrate experience w/effective behavioral management systems
 
QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
Minimum 3 years of school leadership experience at the elementary and or middle school level
Possess an understanding of and commitment to the integration of technology into the   curriculum
Demonstrated strength in public speaking to effectively communicate with students,   
staff, parents and community members in an urban community
Knowledge of Special Education services and CT Special Education Laws
Knowledge of English Language Learner services
Ability to mobilize parents/community towards achieving common goals
Knowledge of school budget development and management
Knowledge of common core state standards
Bilingual Preferred
 
SALARY AND TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Salary in accordance with Hartford Principals' and Supervisors' Association Group 1-3 ($113,930 - $129,695). 2012-2013 Twelve-month position.
