Job Title: UGO Teacher Mentor
Department: Contracted by the ASD Training and Professional Development
Reports To: i3 Grant District Coordinator
FLSA Status: Full-time, 185 days, Service Agreement Contract
Wage: $70,000 per contract agreement
General Description of Project:
The Anchorage School District will provide full-time mentors to first year teachers through a collaborative effort between the Alaska Statewide Mentor Project (ASMP) and the University of Alaska Urban Growth Opportunity i3 Grant. The purpose is to provide intensive, individual support to participating teachers with the goals of improving teacher retention and student achievement through developing instructional effectiveness. These mentors are referred to as ASD UGO (Urban Growth Opportunity) mentors and will enhance and work in conjunction with ASD’s existing AEA ASD Mentoring Program.
Expectations:
Mentors are required to visit their mentees in person a minimum of once per month and communicate weekly as well as perform other duties as required. Face-to-face mentoring requires travel throughout the Anchorage School District. Mileage compensation is provided. Phone and email communication may require evening and weekend contact time.
The contract period includes 185 workdays and requires a minimum of 7 hours per workday. Though there is some flexibility within the mentor’s individual schedule, the contracted work calendar begins July 30, 2012 and continues through May 18, 2013. The work calendar provides the same holidays/breaks as ASD teachers.
Mentors are required to attend training academies as well as other professional development opportunities throughout the year. Training academies may last up to one week and may require travel to other parts of Alaska. Travel and accommodation expenses will be covered by the ASD. UGO Mentors must be available to attend trainings/ meetings out of town on August 1-3, 2012; August 13-17, 2012; October 15-19, 2012; December 3-7, 2012; February 15, 2013; April 1-5, 2013; and May 14-16, 2013.
Required Qualifications:

Not employed within the ASD or another school district (or current employment will end before 7/30/2012)

Eight years of ASD teaching experience.

Willingness to contract services through an ASD Service Agreement Contract.

Recency of classroom experience (within 2 years) or other relevant work in the ASD
Preferred Qualifications:

Valid Alaska teaching certificate
