Description:

 

The role of the Elementary Core Teacher funded by Title I is to co-plan and co-teach with individual teachers and teams of teachers to differentiate instruction and meet the needs of diverse learners.  The co-teacher is expected to meet regularly with his or her co-teaching partners to design effective instruction and to use assessment results to plan and modify instruction for individuals and groups of students.  The co-teacher is responsible for:

  • Engaging in co-planning and co-teaching with individual teachers and teams.
  • Collaborating with core, bilingual and special education teachers on differentiation strategies to support the needs of diverse learners.
  • Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  • Identifying student needs, and cooperating with other professional staff members in assessing learning and planning and implementing effective instruction.
  • Maintaining and enhancing professional competence, both content knowledge and pedagogical skill by seeking opportunities for professional development (e.g., coursework, workshops, study groups, etc.).
  • Providing information to parents regarding the instructional program and student progress on a regular basis.
  • Maintaining such records and reports as necessary for Title I requirements.

Qualifications: Must possess a valid IllinoisType 03 teaching certificate (initial, standard, or master) and be highly qualified in the core academic subjects.
