The role of the Elementary Core Teacher funded by Title I is to co-plan and co-teach with individual teachers and teams of teachers to differentiate instruction and meet the needs of diverse learners. The co-teacher is expected to meet regularly with his or her co-teaching partners to design effective instruction and to use assessment results to plan and modify instruction for individuals and groups of students. The co-teacher is responsible for:
Engaging in co-planning and co-teaching with individual teachers and teams.
Collaborating with core, bilingual and special education teachers on differentiation strategies to support the needs of diverse learners.
Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
Identifying student needs, and cooperating with other professional staff members in assessing learning and planning and implementing effective instruction.
Maintaining and enhancing professional competence, both content knowledge and pedagogical skill by seeking opportunities for professional development (e.g., coursework, workshops, study groups, etc.).
Providing information to parents regarding the instructional program and student progress on a regular basis.
Maintaining such records and reports as necessary for Title I requirements.
Qualifications: Must possess a valid IllinoisType 03 teaching certificate (initial, standard, or master) and be highly qualified in the core academic subjects.
