Description:

  • Provide guidance consultation to school administrator, teachers, staff, students, and parents regarding
  • individual and/or group needs.
  • Conduct classroom guidance lessons with each class and every student in the school regarding decisionmaking
  • skills, feelings, interpersonal relationships, communication skills, career exploration, conflict
  • management, problem solving, and personal safety.
  • Provide crisis counseling, small group counseling, individual counseling, and referral to agencies as
  • appropriate.
  • Prepare paperwork to help route children to proper classes, testing, tutoring, counseling services,
  • medical services, and social services, so that each child can achieve optimum academic and social
  • development.
  • Engage in dialogue with parents in reference to child academic and social needs; provide parenting skill
  • training as appropriate to help their children.
  • Coordinate all school-wide testing programs; explain test results to students, teachers, and parents; and
  • help use data to write CIP strategies and goals.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of guidance programs and make changes based on
  • finding.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other
  • documents.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board
  • policy in guidance and counseling.
  • Recruit and prepare volunteers for tutoring and mentoring.
  • Serve as parent-volunteer coordinator and school-adopter coordinator for corporate sponsors.
  • Act as community liaison to promote community involvement and parent support.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Guidance Counseling; valid Texas counseling certificate; valid Texas teacher certificate
  • Four years classroom experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to use accepted theories and techniques appropriate to school
  • counseling.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
  • Demonstrated ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
